Pages pass through the network of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, United States, which protects them from attacks and serves them from as close to the visitor as possible.

What you may do with the maps

Copying one map to sell another is an infringement. Any reproduction or imitation of a map, even in part — its composition, its design, its layout, its texts —, made without written permission is unlawful (Code de la propriété intellectuelle, art. L.122-4) and is a criminal offence of infringement (art. L.335-2 et L.335-3). Every published map is recorded with its fingerprint and its date. The images shown on this site are reduced, watermarked previews: no vector file and no print file is offered here.

A map bought elsewhere can be hung, looked at and lent like any other object you have bought. The following remain excluded, unless permission is given in writing: reproduction, resale, publication online, printing on behalf of a third party, any commercial or advertising use, and incorporation into another product or service.

Any other use — a classroom, a library, an exhibition, an edition — is almost always possible: simply ask at [email protected].

The data used to make them

The maps are computed from open data whose licences require nothing but an attribution — printed on every map, and here it is: Natural Earth (public domain), GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), Wikidata (CC0), Copernicus DEM GLO-90 (© DLR e.V. 2010-2014, © Airbus DS 2019) and ESA WorldCover 2021 (CC BY 4.0). No data under a share-alike licence goes into a map.

Accuracy of information and notices

The maps and information published on this site — outlines, borders, place names and their translations, language areas, descriptive texts — are computed from public data and simplified to remain legible. They are provided for information only, may contain errors or outdated information, and express no political position. An error reported to [email protected] is corrected in future maps.

Anyone who considers that content on this site infringes their rights or is unlawful may report it to [email protected], specifying the content concerned, its address and the grounds for the notice. The content is examined and, where appropriate, removed as promptly as possible.
